Considering the vast amounts of mediums that are being utilized when enacting any long-lasting change within our world,
especially ones focusing on storytelling and community building,
video games tend to be either completely overlooked or outright ignored.
Video games are not only a multidisciplinary endeavor to take up upon,
but an underutilized tool that is able to impact and change the people playing them in ways no other medium can.
Yn’s Travels is a video game alpha that focuses on subverting
the negative mentalities surrounding video games with many expressed ye-olde points such as
that they are “only for kids”,
“that they cause violence”
and that they have “little societal value”,
by having its central story and theme be based upon real-life stories of mental health, discrimination, and/or enforced gender roles.
In the game, you will explore various interesting worlds,
meet quirky and very real characters,
all the while changing the world and making friends along the way.
In this alpha, you will get a taste of what the full game will have in store,
starting with a soft introduction to the world,
a simple control scheme for beginners, and an expansive journey into an unlinked world.
The expected playtime is ~10min,
and further updates to the game can be requested by emailing me or contacting me via my Discord below.
Best played when you have:
read the downloadable booklet
and
brought a person who has never played any video game prior/
has reservations on the very existence of video games to play alongside you!
Note: The game was made using Windows 10 in mind, so any glitches/hiccups experienced in any other version are unchecked.
